Community Bank Capital Corporation (CBCC) was formed in 1992 and acquired Cherokee Federal Bank. In 1994, the organizations acquired North Georgia National Bank and merged into the re-named thrift charter “Bank of North Georgia”. Bank of North Georgia became a state-chartered bank in 1998 and a member of Columbus, Georgia-based Synovus when they purchased CBCC in August of 1998.
With more than $35 billion in assets, Synovus provides commercial and retail banking, as well as investment services, to communities in Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee. Today, Bank of North Georgia is one of 30 banks in the Synovus family of companies and is ranked as the largest in asset size with $5.8 billion in assets (as of 3/15/09).
The Bank of North Georgia logo is a symbol of Georgia's Cherokee Nation heritage and local businesses. The "plus" icon is a graphic illustration of a basket weave. The interlocking bands represent the interdependent relationships which strengthen commerce and community.
